How It Works & F.A.Q

How It Works & F.A.Q

INSTRUMINE (The Instrument Sharing Community) is a community of musicians borrowing and lending their instruments to each other. Share your own instruments and help a fellow musician in need, and make a bit of extra money in return – or find an instrument to borrow when you need it. To join, just register and create your music profile.

IMPORTANT: In order to make the exchange safe and official, the instrument owner should print the following official contract and fill in the information. Make sure that both parties sign it and have a copy of it. Click here to DOWNLOAD your "Personal Property Agreement"

When creating your profile, we advice you to be specific by adding your name, city, biography, and anything else that lets other musicians know who you are and shows how reliable you are.

HOW DO I BORROW AN INSTRUMENT?

  1. Make a request to the owner from the instrument's page and explain who you are and why you want to borrow their gear. Please provide as much information as possible on the situation and your background;
  2. Arrange dates, times and means of payment with the instrument owner;
  3. Take accurate pictures of the equipment at the moment of the exchange – in order to not risk being held responsible for any damage you didn't cause – then sign the agreement. If possible, invite the owner to your show and enjoy your new musical connection!

HOW DO I LEND AN INSTRUMENT?

  1. Add your instrument by clicking the button in the top right corner of the website, and fill in the form, adding all the information you think might be of interest to other musicians.
  2. When musicians contact you, decide if you feel comfortable helping them by lending them your instrument. Then work out together how to arrange your collaboration.
  3. Print and sign the agreement. At the moment of the exchange, take accurate pictures of the instrument – to avoid future discussions regarding any damages that could occur – and make sure to have a copy/photo of their ID card/passport. That's it, you have now made a great contribution to the musicians’ community! If possible, don't just cash in; support them and attend their show!
CAN I SAFELY LEND MY INSTRUMENTS TO OTHER MUSICIANS

This is a very important question! Posting on INSTRUMINE does not force you to always say YES. Rather the opposite! Before making any decision, understand WHO is asking for your help and for WHAT your instruments are needed. Once you feel comfortable with the other musician, make sure that a mutual rental agreement has been signed by both parties (You can download it above in this page), that you have a copy of their identification document (ID card/Passport) and that detailed pictures of the equipment have been taken at the moment of the exchange. Together you can make it happen!

HOW DO I DECIDE THE PRICE OF MY GEAR

The philosophy of INSTRUMINE is to HELP OUT the community of musicians. Getting money in return is a consequence and not the goal. In general, pricing varies depending on the item, but try and keep it as affordable as possible for your colleagues and aim to let them borrow your gear more often instead!

IN WHICH CATEGORY SHOULD I POST MY INSTRUMENT

If you are not sure in which category your gear belongs, feel free to post it under OTHER INSTRUMENTS and we will find a place for it!

CAN YOU ADD A NEW FEATURE TO THE WEBSITE

Please use the contact form to shoot your ideas!

HOW DO I DELETE MY PROFILE

Please, contact us and we will take care of it. If possible, please also explain to us what led you to this decision in order for us to improve the service and make it always better for the community.

CAN I BORROW AN INSTRUMENT FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME

Sure! If you need a piece of equipment for more than one day just ask the owner if this could be an option and at what amount you can both agree upon!

IS IT FREE

Yes, listing and signing up on INSTRUMINE is free and it always will be.

CAN I USE THE SERVICE EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD?

You can sign up, create a profile and contact other musicians from anywhere in the world. INSTRUMINE is a growing community and at the moment it is only possible to ADD new instruments with PICK-UP in Berlin, Germany. We are going to open up the service to all the other cities very soon, so stay in touch with us! Thank you for being part of the musicians community!
